Dr. Marie Holowaychuk has been practicing yoga since the end of her residency in North Carolina. While she was working in academia, she frequented yoga classes at local studios to help manage her anxiety. After a debilitating car accident in the fall of 2014, Marie realized how healing her yoga practice was, both physically and emotionally. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Yoga Passage in Calgary during July 2015, and has been teaching yoga to veterinary students, technicians, and veterinarians since then. Marie is also a certified yoga nidra teacher and feels that the sacred practice can be incredibly healing for veterinary care providers.
In 2014, Marie also completed a mindfulness-based stress reduction course for professionals in to help manage her mental health. A regular meditation practice has proved instrumental in tapering the ups and downs of her anxiety. Therefore, during August 2016, Marie finished her 200-hour meditation teacher training at Lifestyle Meditation in Edmonton and has facilitated meditation practices and mindfulness trainings for veterinary care providers ever since.
Marie is empathic about the struggles veterinarians and technicians face in their professional lives and is eager to share her knowledge and experience in mindfulness and meditation to prevent burnout and reduce compassion fatigue among veterinary professionals. Marie is available to lead yoga practices and facilitate mindfulness and meditation trainings for veterinary teams in small group (< 20 people) settings.
